Abernethy Laurels is a continuing care retirement community located in Newton, NC.

Trick-or-treating in the Village is one of our favorite traditions, and Tuesday was a gorgeous day for walking through campus and enjoying all the hospitality! Our residents gave out treats, and they loved to see our team members' children and grandchildren dressed up in costume. It's honestly such a wonderful, intergenerational event, and you can tell from the smiles that both young and old were equally delighted by the chance to come together and play! #abernethylaurels #seniorliving #retirementcommunity #halloweencostume #trickortreat #newtonnc ... We love when our entire community has the chance to come together! Yesterday, our independent living residents dressed up their pets in Halloween costumes and brought them to our healthcare and assisted living households to give the folks a chance to interact with the cute creatures. There was clearly a lot of joy brought on by these canine hot dogs, jack o'lanterns, alligators, and bats! #abernethylaurels #seniorliving #retirementcommunity #halloweenparade #dogsincostume #newtonnc ... Residents, visitors, or staff can honor Abernethy Laurels employees for providing excellent customer service by filling out a WOW card. Out of all the monthly cards, a WOW winner is selected for special recognition.
This month, medication aide Lisa Houston is our spotlight employee. Lisa was nominated by an Abernethy employee who stated, “Whether Lisa serves as a CNA or a medication aide, she puts the patients first! Lisa cares about the patients and will do anything she can for them. I admire and look up to Lisa and the compassion she has for others.”
Lisa has been a CNA for approximately 32 years and has served on the Abernethy team for 12 years. When asked what she enjoys most about her job, Lisa shared, “I have great co-workers – they are the best CNAs and nurses! Some may say I missed my calling as a nurse, but I think God has put me where he needs me. When you work in long-term care, you must have empathy, patience, and understanding. It can be a difficult job, but if you have love in your heart, you can conquer anything!"
Thanks, Lisa, for your hard work and dedication! #abernethylaurels #everyage #EmployeeAppreciation #employeespotlight
