Earlier this week, in conjunction with #CertifiedNursesDay, we recognized our own nurses who have taken the extra step to achieve certification in specialized fields. Sundee Jones, RN, BSN, GERO-BC (left), is our director of nursing, and Miriam Crowder, RN, GERO-BC, is a unit care coordinator. They both have certification in gerontological nursing. Not pictured is Jane Davis, RN, RAC-CT, who is an MDS coordinator and whose certification relates to MDS assessments required for all residents of nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities in the US.
Certified nurses have advanced skills that require continuing education, re-certification, and continued knowledge of ever-changing technology.
